WHAT STREAM TO CHOOSE AFTER CBSE CLASS X' FIRST

Congratulations! You’ve achieved your first academic milestone. Now it’s time to introspect and think about which subjects you liked the most and which classes did you ace. You must consider both your passion and aptitude when choosing your stream for the next level. You are about to begin your +2; a journey which lays a foundation for your future. So you need to brace up and put in an extra dose of hard work. Here are a few points to keep in mind while choosing your stream:

• You know about your interests, preferences and capabilities. If you think your heart is set on humanities but science offers greater opportunities, analyse whether you have a knack for science. Be guided by your inner call, rather than going along with the fad. Do not opt for a stream because most of your friends have chosen it.
• Look at the long-term prospects. Think why you want to choose a certain stream. Do you have a dream profession or career in mind? Your goal can also be your guide and your driving factor. Speak to professionals in your career of interest to gain their insights.
• Do your homework. Whichever stream you wish to pursue, go through the syllabus, read a few chapters from prescribed textbooks and see your depth of understanding. Also speak to your seniors to gain their perspective.
• Speak to faculty and family. Discuss your decision with your teachers, school counsellor and your parents. They’ll provide you sound feedback on your abilities from different points of view. Reflect on those.
• Take a test drive. Schools provide the flexibility to incoming +2 students to try out various subjects in the initial months. Take this test drive with utmost seriousness and decide which stream fits you the best.
