What Are The TOEFL And IELTS?

The TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) is a popular choice of English Proficiency tests and is accepted by most universities. Most colleges require international students to have completed one, with the grade requirements and preference (if any) clearly stated on the website, as part of the admission process. Some colleges may waive this requirement if certain prerequisites are met.

The TOEFL has four different sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. All four sections are graded separately and then contribute to a composite/total score. A "good" TOEFL score depends on your own abilities as they relate to your speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills. But it is recommended to have a 100+ score out of 120 as that would be an average minimum requirement for universities abroad.

Whereas, the IELTS or International English Language Testing System is a standardized English language proficiency test for non-native speakers. It is managed and administered by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment. It is one of the most recognized English-language exams in the world. The IELTS consists of 4 Sections – Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing
