What is the employment sector?

The section of the economy that generates jobs that contribute to legitimate economic activity is called the employment sector. It includes various occupations, and the occupations within each sector are typically interrelated with each other in some way or the other. While these jobs are linked within a larger field, each sector requires a workforce with diverse skills and various specialities. In light of the present pandemic, everything that this sector has known or followed like a bible for years stands negated. It is surely time to cook something new. Interestingly enough, the pandemic has not even ended and we already have a preview of what to expect in the coming years.

Emerging Trends in the industry
A lot of new micro and macro business models have gained ground in the present turn of events. People are now forced to think out of the box sitting within four walls. Nothing could be more challenging than thinking extra-ordinarily sitting in ordinary surroundings. But, some people work splendidly under pressure and it seems like that has exactly what has happened. The pandemic has given rise to some great talents; people’s discovery of self has regained its charm to a large extent too.

a) Work-from-Home
This is the most obvious shift that has been rampant across the employment sector on a global level. People have abandoned offices in their glass-walled highrise buildings and resorted to the protection of their homes to seek shelter while still maintaining productivity. In a bold move, corporate giant TCS, said last month they plan to go partially work-from-home even post COVID-19.
The work-from-home culture has caused a lot of positive changes like people reconnecting with their personal lives. So much so that some corporate companies are planning to continue this system to some level to ensure healthier and happier employees.

b) Video Conferencing
With work-from-home has come the practice of video-conferencing people. But it’s not just the professional space that is using this. People are starting to realize the value of looking at a person and talking and not just through a screen. On a very monetary front though, applications like Zoom, Skype, etc. have benefited a lot from the present culture of video calling. With a negligible amount paid to become a registered member. Zoom Meetings, Zoom concerts, Insta-Live series, etc have become part of our daily vocabulary.

c) Online Shopping
In a country, where even basic living amenities are a luxury to a large section of the demographic, this sudden limitation to not go out to ‘shop’ for essentials is a hard reality to get used to. Among the middle class, we see an easy shift to online grocery shopping that has taken place in the present pandemic. Chances are, that by the time the lockdown is lifted, quite a lot of people will be employed in the online shopping industry for clerical work and it will be a more mainstream practice as people will slowly withdraw from going out for everything.

d) New Jobs
While on one end, most of the jobs we have known forever are going through a storm of a change in this lockdown, several new ones have emerged to show that there is always a way out. The lockdown imposed in COVID-19 has seen the rise of new jobs in the sector of digital marketing and an increased number of delivery employees. This can continue to be a trend as people will become accustomed to staying home for the most part of their lives and the increasing digitization of every industry.

e) Rampant digitization
With increased limitations to physical interactions, the only way out is to go digital. As nearly everything has been moved to digital platforms, there are a lot of chances of people settling down as they try to optimize the digital world to make everything possible online. The medical field has seen a rise in doctors doing sessions online that act as a free consultation. Applications like Practo and Aarogya are some examples of the same. Even recreation is being launched entirely on digital platforms. Netflix, Hotstar, Amazon Prime, etc. are some examples.

The need for new business models is the calling we all need to respond to. It is no secret that things will not go back to the way they were before the pandemic. There is a need to come up with new ideas and give the world a fresh start. So go ahead and look into entrepreneurial ideas that can change lives and create an impact.
