Stanford Deferred MBA- All You Need To Know

As a student completing undergraduate studies, Stanford also offers you the option to apply for a deferred MBA program. It is aimed at students who are unsure of their professional path and would like to gain full-time professional experience before enrolling for an MBA. It gives the student time to explore their interests and a range of industries while giving security in terms of admission with the MBA program in the future.

Course Design and Application Procedure
Stanford typically recommends applying when you are in your final year of study. College applications are drawn in three rounds, it is important to choose the round most relevant to you. As an applicant to the deferred course, Round 3 is a common route selected. Even as a direct enrollment, Stanford may admit you to a deferred program if they are of the opinion that work experience will benefit your learning with their course requirements.

Similarly, the Stanford admissions committee may also admit you with a different gap period depending on your profile. So, while you may apply for a direct or deferred program, the Adcom designs the best fit for you. Your application will contain the same requirements as a standard MBA program:

1. Standardised tests: A high score on a GMAT or GRE will be the starting point for your profile. As any top school, Stanford too requires a good score. Additionally, you may need to provide proof of English proficiency in the form of TOEFL, IELTS or PTE to determine whether you are eligible for completing the curriculum given that English is the medium of instruction.

2. Letter of Reference: Your application is strengthened with a letter of reference from your professional supervisor who oversaw your work in your gap years. These letters must be issued by someone who personally supervised your work. You may pursue other alternatives for letters from other people in case the first condition does not apply to you. You must ensure that the person who issues the letter can vouch for your profile

3. Essay: Two essays which reflect your personality, attitude and overall character are essential to your profile. Take care to follow the required topic, format and other specifications.

4. Fee: As a deferred applicant, you will have a reduced fee for your application.

Fellowships
Stanford invites applications for fellowships in the year prior to your enrollment as a deferred student. It must be noted however, that applications sent in for the same any time earlier than the year before joining cannot be carried over- you will be required to send in a fresh application.

Dual Degrees
Options of dual degrees with an MBA as a deferred student are also available in the year prior to enrollment or during the first year, depending on the program of your choice. It is a good way to complete your course in a shorter period of time.
