Why 2020 Can Still Be Your Year
The present social climate has left most of us optimists spiralling into thinking that 2020 is probably not our year after all. Everything looks a little dim compared to the bright hopes we had on new years. What if we tell you that it can still be your year? The year for firsts; the year for bests even. It’s all just a matter of perspective. Read on to know why there is still hope.
1) So many books, so little time
There is no dearth of literature out there and there is no better way to pass time than spend hours reading books. You can never be too smart or too full to absorb more than what you already know. This is not to say that you need to read piles of encyclopedias or academic texts alone. You could travel the world and even imaginary lands sitting at your own home reading J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter or Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. This lockdown is a great time to build your imagination, creativity and knowledge. Millions of books have been made available online completely free in light of the present crisis to help people pursue the same. In case you plan to pursue higher studies post the lockdown, you can build your knowledge about your chosen program and the courses offered by availing the books available online.
2) Time to work on your EQ
Your Emotional Quotient is a lot more important than you think. The ability to sympathise and empathise is no easy feat. It takes a lot of acceptance of your own self to understand the emotions of others. In the present condition outside, do not be hard on yourself or your counterparts. Everyone is bound to feel a little low because of the minimal social interaction and the feeling of uncertainty. Life has taken a whole new turn and everyone is feeling as low as you. Stay in touch with your friends, talk to your family, make friends online and work on your own weaknesses. Most importantly, ask people how they are doing, how their day was or what they did all day. Check up on people and try to understand their situations. Developing your EQ is essential in this fast paced world as we often forget what it is like to be human. We carry ourselves through each day like robots and barely give time to the little things in life. In this mad rush to reach places, we leave behind people and sentiments and slowly turn insensitive. And insensitivity is the last thing we need right now.
3) A trip to yesterday for a better tomorrow
This is the best time to reflect on yourself. You are getting so much time to sit and think about what you have done. Reflect on your 2019, and see what made it flawed, what you did wrong and what you can do better in 2020. You can also look at more realistic resolutions for the year 2020 rather than setting goals so high that you struggle to reach them. Take life a little lightly, and slow down. When it comes to a student, he/she can look at their performance the previous year and work on getting better in the coming academic year. As for the employed, you can assess your productivity at the workplace and also look for ideas that will help you get ahead in your career. Work on bringing something new to the company.
4) Search for self
This is the best time to explore your options, and see what you like. Embark on a journey to find your true passion. Even if you do not figure out what you like, don’t let that worry you, because chances are, that you know at least some things that you DO NOT like. And that is halfway there. You probably haven’t had enough time to self analyse over the past couple of years and so utilize this time to find out who you really are. If you are a student right now, this is the best time to find out what you like. You have years to turn your life around into something entirely different and live it the way you have always wanted.
So go on and hope for the best without fear because it is not too late to make this your year!
