Late application deadlines: What are they all about?

The college admissions season is in full swing and a lot of students have started hearing back about the status of their applications. There are three main college deadlines you need to consider before planning the application process, early decision, regular and late decision. Early deadlines typically begin in November, regular decision deadlines in January and February, and late decision deadlines typically begin in March and extend well into August.

The college application process can be quite tedious and you need all your documents in hand, including your letters of recommendation, essays, and SAT/ACT scores during the application process, all of which take weeks to months of preparation. Thus, if your application is not quite ready, you can consider the late admission deadline.

But are there any advantages to it? Yes, there are several of them! The biggest one is that you do not lose an entire academic year and you do not need to start the application process afresh next year. You can retake your SAT or ACT to achieve better scores or include the scores from the most recent semester in your academic transcripts which help you boost your academic profile

Furthermore, there are several colleges with late admission deadlines that also offer rolling admissions, meaning the admissions are open until the class capacity is reached for that course. Thus, you can continue your applications well into the summer of that year, which will give you the opportunity to build a strong profile. However, this means that you will find it difficult to apply for any scholarship programs, as the applications for those close well in advance.

So, fret not! If for some reason you could not apply for the early or normal decision deadlines, late application deadlines are for you!
