“Lockdown Diaries”……Well, my lockdown diaries are filled with ups and downs of events compiled into a pretty productive couple of months and a considerable amount of free time to think things through in this once in a lifetime experience of a global pandemic. This experience, though not under the best desirable circumstances, but does bring out a lot of opportunities and honestly, we don’t really have much of a choice except to make the best out of this given situation!

I have always been an extrovert……hanging out with friends after school, walking to home from tuition and smiling subtly towards my fellow “walkers” while doing so is what adds joy to my life. So although I was pretty excited when the lockdown was announced and we were told we would be having classes online which also meant getting to sleep more and having loads of free time BUT little did I know it would go on for months!

Therefore, what I did to keep myself sane and active is that I made a list of a few activities that I love to do and one of them is finding a new activity every 2 weeks to get a “power-up” in the current version of myself. I tried my hand at drawing, writing, cooking, baking and still continue to do so!

I didn’t try it all just once, rather I practiced into making it a new hobby. This isolation period even gave me a topic to write a poem on! It goes like-
Silent streets, clear sky, quaint cities- why would this ever happen!? I wonder why….
Since us humans always get what we want, all of us have our ways
Thinking about no one- nothing else, we do what we desire, no matter what the nature says….
All this, until now that we asked for a lesson to be taught which even the generations to come will save,
It’s our mother earth who has taken charge to remind us all to behave!
So we bring on ourselves the calamity of Corona, a disease so dreadful, it forces the world to come to a halt
No one is to be blamed, it’s all our fault Millions dying and economies curb, now we repent by staying at home
Nature heals, Animals savour…Karma showed the Earth doesn’t belong to us humans alone!
Everyone is affected by this- the old, the young- the poor, the rich
This pandemic discriminates against none and it’s high time that even we turn off this switch!
Now that the world is together, together we fight against this
Let’s wash off Corona and lock the lockdown to live again as one with bliss!
What else is important right now, more than ever, is to stay healthy and hygienic! A proper diet with sufficient exercise and our mental and physical wellbeing go hand in hand. So although it’s not safe to go out for a jog or to the gym for a quick workout, it’s always possible to do some yoga and exercise at home which is pretty easy now with the help of social media sites and it’s talents!

As much as I’d love to run out for a badminton match with my friends or just a casual ice cream outing with my family after dinner, it’s fairly mandatory to take precautionary measures and practice social distancing for our own safety. But staying connected through the internet can do us more good than we think in terms of our mental health…..After all, human beings are social animals! We NEED communication! So stay safe, have faith, stay creative, and stay connected! 🙂
