Master of Commerce (M.Com)

The Master of Commerce (M.Com) is a postgraduate degree in commerce, and like the Bachelor of Commerce degree, it is only offered in the Commonwealth nations. The M.Com degree generally covers the study of the different principles of commerce such as economics, taxation, trade, banking and so on. Students of M.Com are allowed to specialize in any one field at the end of two years.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for a Master of Commerce course, candidates have to have a Bachelor’s graduation degree in Commerce, Economics or and equivalent stream as set by the university. A minimum of 45-50% marks may also be demanded depending on the institution alongside other qualifying exams/tests.

M.Com or MBA?

MBA is a professional degree that teaches you the fundamentals of businesses, whereas the M.Com degree is of a more theoretical and academic focus. An M.Com degree prepares you for a career in fields like banking, taxation, stock market, insurance and financial planning and advisory, banking, financial services sales/executives with all kinds of product and service providers among others.

On the other hand, due to the nature of the MBA program, graduates are equipped for jobs in several fields in management and executive positions.
